Whether you have a horse, a rabbit, a dog or a parrot, the risk of your pet walking or flying away on its own is considerable. The loss of a pet often has serious emotional consequences. Because of the worry of not knowing where your pet is staying and whether it is ill or not, as well as the pain of missing it, you start putting notes on the board at the supermarket or in neighbours’ letterboxes, search through the neighbourhood every night, make phone calls to animal rescue services or animal shelters... until you have your pet back, you live in a state of uncertainty. This is why a system has been developed to ensure that your lost pet is returned to you. In the registration system of the Dutch Pet Database (NDG), your pet is given an electronic identification number which is linked to your address details in a database.
